Won!... sorta?

I won FIRST prize for my "Steam Punk Video Game System"... which SOUNDS great! but... It's second to GRAND prize... So! I got a free video game... with a Metascore of like 28... or something... Damnation is the title of the game... I don't really know what to do with it... I really would have preferred the 40" HDTV and the 7.1 Surround sound with the specially modded ps3... but we can all dream... at least it's something I can blog about!

Concept! Demon Boy

Save for any major changes this is the Demon Boy concept... I need to figure out a name to call him... I was going for a sort of Saturday morning cartoon sorta look, I'm pretty excited about starting to model him... I haven't concepted the waistband design yet but I want to do some Mayan design studies and maybe some south american weaving designs under my belt... no pun intended... until I do a complete concept, which I will obviously be doing in a separate document... ANYWHO it's getting late! time for bed... after some Pizza...mmmnnn

Start of Concept!

Just basic color Ideas... I know it's not done (you can blame Civ for that) but It should be done tomorrow!
I decided to go with the little demon boy for a few reasons,
1. Time, I want to see if I can get this done before or shortly after pre-college starts up and number 2 (the characters everyone seemed to like) was TWO characters so... basically twice as much work/time! especially in the concept phase!
2. I wanted to do something that was basically humanoid, The Demon boy is basically a stylized human character and I wanted something that had a regular mouth, hands, eyes, and feet, because my squid guy didn't have any humanoid features other than it's body shape and eyes so I really wanted something humanesqe
3. I had a clear image in my head of how the Boy would look, act, move, ect... while number 2 is kinda... hit shit, make it go dead... which is fun! but the Boy has more personal possibilities and possible interest in animating him or at least rigging and posing him (especially facial rigging!)

I just wanted to explain before anyone starts going, BUT I WANTED TO SEE NUMBER TWO!

Number 2 (and 2.5) will come to life probably after pre-college, but I promise you he will exist in glorious 3D!

I'm having so much fun working again on a character... I hate to say it but I think I enjoy developing characters more so than developing environments... oh well... could just be I've just been frustrated with my past attempts at environments...

UGH I really got to stop posting on my blog at 3AM! but I'm just psyched to have a new project!

Which one!?

I ended up not abiding my own goal to keep today as a work free day, I was too excited about a new character that instead of going off of the previously shown Nun character I decided to just go ahead and do a ton of new silhouette sketches, and I picked 3 that I liked and refined them!

And I'm sure you're asking yourself now: "3 Silhouettes you say?! but there are FOUR Silhouettes in the image above!"

And to THAT I answer:
The 4th silhouette is a joke character, I just want to see if someone recognizes who it is, (my guess is Ricardo will laugh ones he realizes who the 4th character is) I don't think I will model character number 4 but if enough of you like her over the other three characters... I might consider it...

ANYWHO! Just tell me which one you think will create the most interesting character!
ANY suggestions are welcome
Just looking for some input since I'm away from school it's hard to get a good discussion started (that and It gives me something to entertain myself with...) but I'm going to try my darnedest!

steam-punk WIP Final Contest Entry!

Final Entry for the Damnation "Design a Steampunk Video Game System" with a little guide to what some of the more important pieces are! Special from me to you!
I'm still going to work on the piece, like I would love to texture the engine... there is a lot I would do differently looking back on it... but I think I've learned a lot about how to model more mechanical things and I've also learned what I'm lacking when it comes to modeling mechanical things so I can work on them later... I AM however going to stop working on it for the moment... I'm kinda relieved the contest is over so I think I'm going to start up a new character... I think I'm going to work on the Nun character I made earlier in the blog... although I'm going to work more into the concept to weed out any areas I might be confused on how to model later... I'm pretty excited... although I think I'm going to take a break for the next couple days and start that monday-ish although (I'm probably going to break down and start it tomorrow...) WOWZERS this is a lot of words for a Sketchblog entry... I guess I'm done...

Tell me what you think!

steam-punk WIP 4

I'm just posting for progress, This is what I have done with my re-concepted furnace/boiler/generator... in my earlier "concept" I did wasn't sufficient... let alone interesting enough to follow through with... I really just rushed to build the thing without thinking too much about it... so I put a lot of research into it and now it's supposed to be a scavenged steam-engine modified to generate electricity.... A lot of the bits and pieces are missing (a lot of the parts that actually make it a 2-way valve system for instance) but this is the over-all look of the thing, all I need to do is add some magnets around the generator and all of the smaller parts of the 2-way valve system ... ya that's a long description... This isn't the whole scene because I haven't worked on the other parts recently, this is just for the engine.
