Moved into pixel work, blocked out all the large colors, will be working on light and shadows, along with material differentiation. Enjoying the project so far.

Japanese Hand Scroll WIP 01

First progress image. The assignment is to create a piece of art that is inspired by Japanese Hand Scrolls. The challenge of the assignment is in the compositional elements, as hand scrolls are usually only opened a few inches at a time and rolled onto it'self like a film roll. I've decided to go with a digital format using my ipod touch as a modern equivalent of the hand scroll. I'm laying out the basic image for later when I am going to work with a much smaller image to get the pixel effect. The Hand Scroll composition comes from the fact that the image will be divided into four compositions that each span one screen dimension of an iphone/pod set sideways.
